What do you do in your role as a trustee at Carefree?
As a Trustee at Carefree, I’m responsible for good governance – ensuring that the charity is carrying out its purposes for the benefit of care experienced young people. We provide a supportive and ‘critical friend’ perspective to help the senior leadership team in strategic decision making.
What do you like about being a trustee at Carefree?
I’ve loved meeting all the young people at Carefree, who have created a really welcoming and supportive community. I live and work in Cornwall, so I’m really happy to offer any support I can to this incredible charity that ensures young people are supported to thrive. I particularly love Carefree’s values and ethos in youth leadership.
Can you say a bit about your past experience and qualifications?
I currently work as Director of Programmes at Cornwall Community Foundation, overseeing grant distribution to grassroots community groups across the county. Previously, I’ve worked with Stonewall to support international LGBTQ+ rights, UK Youth to build the case for national investment in youth work, and Women’s Aid Federation of England to prevent domestic abuse and violence against women and girls. Most of my professional life has revolved around attracting and distributing resources to activists who are best placed to make a difference.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
In my spare time, I love exploring Cornwall’s coastline, foraging, singing with my Indy-folk choir in Penzance and I’m also lowkey obsessed with all things Taylor Swift. Come swap friendship bracelets with me?
