What do you do in your role as a trustee at Carefree?
Just starting but anticipate my role will be primarily under the heading “Ensuring that Carefree is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit.” By this, I mean focussing on how Carefree plans and how it sets out to achieve these.
What do you like about being a trustee at Carefree?
Too early to say much but I want to continue to support children and young people in care and care experienced young people through supporting Carefree.
Can you say a bit about your past experience and qualifications?
I worked as a qualified social worker for 37 years – 34 in Cornwall. For over 30 of those years specifically with children. For many of those years I worked with foster carers to help them support children in care before managing the West Children in Care Team from 2008 until 2016. I then worked as an Independent Reviewing Officer for Children in Care (now Children’s Rights Advocate) until 2019. I have really enjoyed my career working with children, their parents and carers and feel that I have learned some things over the years, that may still be useful.
