What do you do at Carefree?

My position at Carefree is a Support Youth Worker. 

What do you like about working at Carefree?

Working at Carefree gives me the unique opportunity to give back to a charity that played a pivotal role in my life. This organisation not only supported me as I entered the care system but also helped me settle comfortably at a young age during a challenging time. Carefree has been instrumental in my personal growth, transforming me from a shy and self enclosed child into the mature and confident man I am today.    

Can you say a bit about your past experience and qualifications?

I’ve been part of the Carefree family since 2011 as a care experienced individual, which has given me a deep understanding and passion for the charity’s mission. From September 2022 until recently, I served on the Carefree Board, where I gained valuable experience in leadership, decision making and strategic planning.

I hold a degree in Sustainable Product Design and worked as a commercial product designer, honing my creativity and problem solving skills. Additionally, I spent six years in hospitality, working my way up to a managerial role, where I developed strong leadership and organisational abilities.

Currently, I also sit on the board of National Children Bureau, which works closely with the Department for Education to influence policy and improve outcomes for children and young people. These experiences have shaped my commitment to making a positive impact and supporting young people in achieving their full potential.    

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? 

In my spare time, I’m fortunate enough to live on the North Coast, which allows me to enjoy surfing regularly. Being out in the ocean not only keeps me physically active but also helps me clear my mind and stay grounded. I’m also an avid runner and recently completed my first marathon, a significant personal achievement that has taught me the value of perseverance and goal setting.  
 
In addition to these activities, I have a strong passion for reading, particularly in the areas of entrepreneurship, business and self-development. These books provide valuable insights that help me continuously improve both personally and professionally. They inspire me to think creatively, adopt new perspectives and stay focused on growth which is essential in both my work and professional life.
