What do you do at Carefree?

I am a 16+ Personal advisor, I work with young people aged 16-21 (and sometimes up to 25) who are ‘Care leavers .  My role is support young people in the transition into adult life, providing support and guidance around all aspects of things that can affect becoming an adult.

What do you like about working at Carefree?

Carefree offer a wide range of support and activities for Cornwall Care leavers, it is great that as workers we are able to work with our colleagues to get the right support for the young people we work with.

Can you say a bit about your past experience and qualifications?

I studied Behavioural Sciences at University, after completing this I worked with young offenders in residential accommodation, followed by 21 years of working with young people in care and leaving care. 10 of those years have been in the 16+ team in Cornwall.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

First and foremost, I enjoy spending time with my family, I have been married for 14 years and have two children.  I love spending time outside, walking, cycling, camping (only in nice weather thou!). We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place and there is so much to explore.  I love roller skating, I am in Roller Derby team and train each week. I am also in choir, singing can be so beneficial to health and wellbeing, I really recommend it!
