What do you do at Carefree?

I am a Youth Worker

What do you like about working at Carefree?

I love working at Carefree because it is a job where I am constantly learning new things and I have an opportunity to support young people in the ways they need it the most. It has been an amazing opportunity for me to work with young people and hear their ideas and see their enthusiasm, as well as working with an amazing team of staff who are supportive and knowledgeable.

Can you say a bit about your past experience and qualifications?

I grew up in Newquay and worked at Newquay Zoo as part of the events and education team until I went to university in Liverpool. There, I studied Education and Early Years, then went on to gain my teaching qualification as a postgraduate, during which time I undertook placements in a variety of environments, including both mainstream and specialised provision. I started teaching primary age children in 2015, and then the following year, completed my Masters in Education.

While teaching, I have worked with care experienced children, children with a variety of needs and have worked alongside a multitude of professionals including social workers, behavioural teams and play therapists to support children and young people.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

I’ve recently moved back down to Cornwall after 12 years of being up North, and I’m enjoying the coast again. I’m a bit of a bookworm, and love nothing more than reading a good book and listening to the waves! I love to swim but haven’t yet braved a sea swim- it’s freezing! I also love to explore and take my dog to all the different places- she isn’t quite used to the countryside yet! I also LOVE animals, so any time that I can get to a zoo, an aquarium or a farm is amazing!
