What do you do at Carefree?
I am a Personal Advisor. I provide support and guidance around a range of issues, working with care experienced young people as they move into adulthood.
What do you like about working at Carefree?
I am passionate about supporting young people to gain skills and independence ensuring they are successful in whatever they choose to do. I like the longer-term work that Carefree offers, to allow us to provide a consistent figure who can offer support and guidance to overcome life’s challenges. I love getting to know young people, hearing their stories and seeing them progress. I feel very lucky to be in a position where I can help our young people.
Can you say a bit about your past experience and qualifications?
I worked in schools for many years as a Trauma Informed Schools (TiS) Practitioner among other roles, supporting young people who had experienced trauma. I then moved on and worked in a residential home for young people with Social and Emotional Mental Health and most recently was a Youth Worker supporting young people in youth groups, activities, schools and 1:1 sessions. I returned to studying later in life after raising my family gaining my TiS Practitioner status and my degree, BSc Psychology, while working full time. I also have a level three qualification in Youth work.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I love to spend my free time with my family. I enjoy walking our two border collies and attempting to train them, although I often feel they have me trained! I am a keen reader, enjoy learning and I love crafts, writing and restoring old furniture. There is nothing that makes me happier than curling up on the sofa after a busy day with a roaring fire and a good book or my current favourite series, my partner and our dogs.
