Stakeholder Day
On the 25th of July, under the wonderful leadership of Mandy Jackson, we hosted our annual Stakeholder Day. This day was an opportunity for us to welcome many of the people and organisations, young and old, that have helped make Carefree what it is to celebrate what we have built together. Hidden in the woods, the magical Scorrier House was buzzing with activity from preparations in the morning to packing up in the early evening.
The day got off to a start with groups rotating around ten different workshops ran by different branches of Carefree and its close partners. Ranging from pottery painting with Emma Wilson from the Museums Partnership to team-building games in the garden with Adrian Richards, BF Adventure CEO, and Duncan Williams, a Carefree youth worker. Even aspects of Carefree’s work that might not immediately bring fun to mind were made into games for everyone to get involved with, thanks to the imagination of the team. These included building houses out of giant cards and our own version of ‘the price is right’ at setting up home stands and a gigantic careers snakes and ladders game to get us thinking about education and the world of work. Amongst all the workshops, in typical Cornish style, pasties and ice creams were on hand with young people taking the lead on distributing them. The blow-up jousting game outside was especially popular as it gave young people an opportunity to challenge Carefree workers to a match with Jeni Stephens, our youth work lead, taking a lot of batterings for the team.
Once everyone had a had a go at each workshop, Mari gathered everyone in the main hall to thank them for their support and congratulate them on how far we have all come together. Then Charlie, on the guitar, and Elisha, on vocals, closed the day with a performance of four beautiful and life-affirming songs including ‘You’ve Got a Friend’ that everyone joined in on heartily.
