Corporate Parenting Board Takeover

On the 13th April 2022, young people from Carefree met with members of the Corporate Parenting Board (CPB) at BF Adventure. They were involved in activities and workshops to identify common aims to improve the lives of children in and leaving care for 2022/2023.

Put simply, the term ‘Corporate Parent’ means the collective responsibility of the council, elected members, employees, and partner agencies, to keep children in care and leaving care safe and to be the best parent it can be in the same way that a good parent would act for their own child.

Everyone met in the morning and took part in some archery to get everyone talking. After lunch workshops were facilitated by young people and workers with the aim of young people and members of the CPB to share their four top issues which will form the key priorities for the CPB for this year which were:

  1. Emotional wellbeing – to have trauma informed services and for children and young people to understand their own lives and story
  2. Support with find suitable housing
  3. Transport – for the council to agree to bus passes for care leavers following the transport campaign
  4. To increase the number of well-trained foster carers and long terms foster homes.
