What do you do at Carefree?

At Carefree, I work directly with care leavers aged 18–25, supporting them as they transition into independent adulthood. Our mission is to break the cycle of instability by helping young people build a secure foundation rooted in consistency, confidence, and strong community connections.

In my role, I work closely with Personal Advisors, who refer young people to us for tailored support. I provide practical, hands-on guidance around independent living skills, including budgeting, managing benefits, shopping, and maintaining a stable home environment. My focus is to empower care leavers with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to settle in one area, thrive in their community, and plan for a successful future.

What do you like about working at Carefree?

What I enjoy most about working at Carefree is the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of care leavers. Supporting young people through such an important stage of their journey is incredibly rewarding, especially as I get to watch their confidence grow and celebrate the milestones they achieve. I value the trusting relationships we build, the practical support I can offer, and the chance to walk alongside them as they develop the skills they need for independence. I also appreciate being part of a compassionate, mission-driven team that genuinely cares about the young people we support and about each other. Our shared commitment to giving care leavers stability, community, and a strong foundation for the future makes this work truly fulfilling.

Can you say a bit about your past experience and qualifications?

I have worked in Adult social care for many years, previously with adults with learning disabilities and autism. I started this job in January 2025 and although it’s a new sector it shares many of the same principles and values as my previous role.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

In my spare time I enjoy the gym, fishing, metal detecting, generally a quiet life. Spending time with my family and friends.
