What do you do at Carefree?

I am a Support Worker (Separated Children Seeking Asylum)

What do you like about working at Carefree?

The working environment at Carefree is inclusive, progressive, motivated and kind. I have felt so warmly welcomed here and I feel that Carefree recognises and values the individual skills and personality traits in each of its workers and young people. Carefree centralises building positive relationships, and this is felt not only when working the amazing young people but also within the team of staff.

Can you say a bit about your past experience and qualifications?

I was a chef for eleven years, in which time I also studied and trained in teaching yoga. I’ve been teaching yoga for six years and have undergone several level two trainings. As a chef I was working more recently for non-profit organisations with the intention of creating connection and community through access to good food. I believe that growing, eating, cooking and talking about food are wonderful vehicles for creativity and connection. I also believe that mindful movement and connecting in with our bodies are both hugely vital to a sense of wellbeing. I have some experience with young people in an education setting and in a voluntary capacity, and I have a level two counselling skills certificate.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

I am a cold water lover, and swim in the sea as regularly as I can! I practice yoga, and love to go walking and hiking. Music is very important in my life, and my record collection is growing! I used to sing in a community choir, which I miss, so I’m hoping to join one again soon. I love to cook with and for my friends and family whenever possible. Oh, and I love hula-hooping.
