What do you do at Carefree?
I work with young people who are in year 11 at school, looking at careers. I meet up with young people and we explore their options for when they leave school. I am also in charge of the accreditation (workbooks and certificates) that all the young people who attend Carefree can work towards, covering all sorts of different topics. I also run the Virtual School Shadow Board, where young people get a chance to contribute to the decision making process of the Virtual School.
What do you like about working at Carefree?
I love working with the whole Carefree team, young people and not so young people! Everyone is always supportive and helpful, and we have a lot of fun. I feel really lucky to have been able to travel around Cornwall with Carefree, trying new outdoor activities, seeing many different places and meeting lots of really interesting people.
Can you say a bit about your past experience and qualifications?
I am a qualified teacher and have taught in secondary schools, colleges and at University level. My Masters degree is in Education and I am TEFL trained. I am also Trauma Informed trained and recently delivered training in London on using Trauma Informed approaches through drama and music.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I love acting and writing. I perform regularly with local drama groups and at Spoken Word events. I have also just reformed a band with a friend, and we are very excited to be gigging after Christmas! I have the best dog in the world who hangs out with me most of the time. We love walking on beaches and sea swimming all year round. I also really enjoy cooking and pub quizzes!
