What do you do at Carefree?

What do you like about working at Carefree?

I love the ethos of the team – a genuinely wonderful group of people all working to the same end to ensure the best outcomes for care-experienced young people.

I’m very new to the job but I’m sure that I will gain a huge amount from working alongside my young people and seeing them flourish in independence.

Can you say a bit about your past experience and qualifications?

I have had a very mixed professional life! I have a BSc (Hons) in Genetics and Zoology and went on to qualify as a secondary school science teacher. I spent several years working in childrens’ social care in Cornwall, working mainly with teens and care leavers, and also spent a number of years working as frontline crew on emergency ambulances, responding to 999 calls. In my most recent teaching post I have been co-running a group for LGBTQ+ young people and allies, which has been an amazing experience.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

Being out in nature, whether it’s walking, gig rowing, sea swimming or other watersports. Also partial to an evening on the sofa with a good film!
